Menorca is perfect for young families. Majorca for older family or couples.
Lots of lovely resorts. Look at Cala Millor.

I love Palma and have the best of both worlds there. You can stay in a hotel by the beach and do trips to the town for shopping and restaurants, or you can stay in the Old Town and do trips to the beach.

Majorca. As a general rule Menorca is good for young families and cycling holidays. Majorca good for everyone else.

Definitely Majorca and I agree with staying close to or in Palma. It’s a lovely city and has a lot to see there.

Port de Sóller in Mallorca

I’ve never been to Menorca but have been considering it for a last minute break this summer. Have a toddler, primary age dc and a young teen. Bit worried there won’t be enough to do for the older one but the hotels seem very well geared to younger kids. Anyone have any tips? Don’t really want a long transfer either if possible.

If it's last minute in the next week or two then to some extent you will have to take what's on offer. Check on Booking dot com and see where has availability in your price range for your dates — you might not find much.

In Majorca you will see offers in Alcudia, Palma Nova, Santa Ponsa, Cala Millor, and Cala d'Or, all of which are fine. I would give a swerve to Playa de Palma, Arenal, and Magaluf because while parts are fine others are party central. Calas de Mallorca and Sa Coma have good prices for all-inclusive but the towns are not up to much. Portocolom, Puerto Soller, Cala Bona, and Puerto Pollensa might be a bit quiet (and will be a bit more expensive). Palma city is good if you get an offer, as there are beaches very close to the city and the shopping and restaurants are fabulous, but you won't find many "typical Mediterranean family holiday hotels" there.

I am not long back from Menorca and as lovely as it was it was a bit laid back even for me and I crave peace and quiet! Saying that though the restaurants we ate in were fab and it was very friendly. I think Majorca may suit you better, only been to Palma Nova and Alcudia, much preferred Palma Nova, close to Palma aswell. My favourite place in the Balerics so far though is Santa Eulalia in Ibiza, absolutely gorgeous!

Majorca every single time.

look at Santa ponsa - it is a great place to explore all the above mentioned areas from

Majorca, and do not rule out Can Pastilla, which is a 5e bus from airport (or 20 e uber). Takes 10 minutes. Fab beach, Plenty of buses into Palma, and up to Arenal water park etc. Safe. We stayed at the Alua Leo which is a Hyatt hotel (actually on the bus route from airport), and the food was fantastic, pool was nice, rooms were simple but nice enough. You can go out and have a lively time (plenty of choice) but it isn't (or at least wasn't in June) full of drunkards. You might get aircraft noise depending on where you choose in this resort though. We like aircraft noise (we live on a flight path), and could not hear it when closing balcony doors, but it is not for everyone.

Definitely Mallorca. Menorca is pretty but a bit boring. However - Palma seems to be ridiculously busy this year, owing to a massive number of cruise passengers wandering about, and I found it a bit much (we have family there so go regularly). I'd stay elsewhere - maybe Port Soller - and visit Palma for the day only on the orange train.
