Cruising

I’m not a cruise person. Gave it a go- been on Celebrity, Silversea, Regent and Norwegian and just not for me. As a last ditch attempt dh booked a week on the new Explora 2. I’m hooked. Exceptional food of a standard I would expect at any decent restaurant (lunch buffet homemade pasta, sushi and fresh fish on ice), one of the restaurants is Michelin starred. Young European professional crowd as opposed to the old crowd on Regent/Silversea and even though the boat is at full capacity, it feels empty.. it’s like a huge private yacht.

Think it will be taking a lot of business away from the other lines. Exceptional.

We love P&O but then we are all different.I suppose it depends where they cruise to and how much it costs. I have never heard of them. I love a P&O buffet!

I don’t think they will take much business away from other cruise lines due to their price point. Not many can afford Explora.

I know that the basic cabin on Explora is not that different price wise to a couple of levels up in Celebrity.

If I wanted to spend that sum of money on a cruise, I don’t want under 18s on board.

They look like beautiful ships, and I'm sure they would be fabulous for people that can afford it. But I recently priced one up going to the east coast of US and Canada, and the price was three times the cost of going with Celebrity, both in the lowest prices balcony cabin. Even comparing the highest Celebrity Aqua class cabin, the Explora is over twice the price. And the Celebrity cruise is 2 days longer.

Now, I'm sure it's wonderful if you can afford it, but I don't agree that it's really even close to being in a similar price bracket.

Sounds fab, you may like Scenic too, they are really good.

It probably similar to Retreat prices.

It's still a good deal more expensive than even Retreat prices on some of the cruises I priced up. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just saying that the cruises are not really in the same price bracket, and on the whole, I don't think it will take much business away from other cruise lines, as the OP seems to think. It's aimed at a different market.
