Now the kids are young teens we’ve become
more adventurous. Have had amazing adventure holidays on tours in Canada and Costa Rica. Where else should we try? Needs to be during British summer school hols so no where too hot and somewhere where food is fairly reliable as my DH has a medical disorder and needs to be fairly cautious.

Close to home but Slovenia is lovely, not too hot and good for food. Lots of outdoor activities for kids too

What about more US road trips? When we were teens my parents did 2-3 week fly drive adventures which we loved.
For example a west coast tour, LA (beverly hills and santa monica) pacific coast highway, San Francisco, San Diego, yosemite, la jolla, Las Vegas and the grand canyon.
Or a country and wildlife one, we did montana, colorado, wyoming.
East Coast going from NYC to whale watching up on rhode Island, boston.
Also florida has so much more than just Disney, the west coast and south west gulf of Mexico, the keys, miami, the everglades...

South Africa is also brilliant!

US road trips? We did California a couple years ago and just done Washington/Oregon, our daughter was 7 for Cali and 9 now and loved both of them.

Agree - start Chicago and world is your oyster. Any direction will be fun eg up to Canada or across to North Michigan Nashville Badlands Kentucky or Ohio hills and state parks.

Just spent a month with DS14 in US exploring Seattle (Boeing, Microsoft, Space Needle etc), Washington state national parks (mountains, volcanoes, waterfalls, river tubing, kayaking) and ended with a cruise to Alaska (bears, whales, sea otters etc) - totally amazing and DS wants to go back!
