Crete October half term?

Can I have experiences of people who have been at this time of year? I've read lots of mixed reviews, some say weather is great, some say it's not. I'm not looking for scorching hot, 21+ would be great and not raining most of the time we are there.

If you recommend, do you have any recs for where to go in Crete? We have 2 young boys but not looking for holiday clubs or even swimming pools, just a safe beach. We tend to like things not so commercialised, love authenticity, views, and love a good sunset.

If you don't mind it not being properly hot, generally Crete has good weather at October half term, though you'll probably want a cardigan for the evening (and possibly during the day, if it's cloudy and the wind picks up - but I feel the cold easily... my husband would never bother!)

You might get a day or two with a spot of light rain. You'd be very unluckily to get days and days of bad weather, but obvs with the increasingly variable climate, you can never totally rule out that risk!

If it's your first visit, I would recommend staying near Chania or Rethymno. Lots of pretty places reasonably accessible and close together. (The Eastern side of the island has it's delights too but it's more spread out)

We went a couple of years ago in October half term. To me the weather was perfect- first half of the week it was high 20s and sunny. Second half low 20s and sunny. No rain.

Got out and did a lot of exploring in the Second half.

Think Crete, Rhodes and Cyprus are all very south so likely to have good weather. I wouldn't do Corfu for example at that time.

We stayed near Rethymno

We had mid to high 20’s in Agios Nikolas a few years ago, pleasant enough to enjoy the pool and explore.

We've been to Crete the last 2 October's and the weather has been really good, mid 20s.
Last year was a bit cloudier and cooler than the year before though, but still nice.

We went last Oct half term.

Weather was ok, low 20s, no rain but was a bit windy a few days. I don't love boiling hot weather but could have done with it a few degrees hotter for the kids to be in the pool all day. It got dark at 1730 in the evening which I didn't like as felt a bit wintery

We stayed near Herakleion which was ok but think Chania and Rethmenyo (sp?) are nicer.

We went to Mallorca this time of year for a few years and always had fab weather (high 20s) so would be tempted to book that again if I wanted easy sun although we could just be have been lucky

I think the weather is less predictable at that time of year. I've been and it was low/mid 20's for the first six days, windy, but beautiful sun and hot enough to be on the beach and in the sea. The last two days were torrential rain and flooding.

Yes we love Pollenca in Mallorca but don't reckon the weather will be good enough for October half term!

Honestly we went 3 years in a row post COVID and was lovely... Think 2022 it was 30 degrees most days. Could just have been lucky mind.

Got bitten to death by tiger mosquitos but that's another story.

I've been, and loved it.

Weather was low 20s and mostly cloudy and sunny in rotation. The nights were colder than I'd anticipated. Sea was also quite choppy. It didn't rain at all. We were fine having a beach holiday in that weather but it was at the cooler end of what most people would be comfortable with for that. You'll also want to take a jacket if you go on a day out.

This was also in north west Crete, which I believe is the windier and cooler part. You might get more sun further east. I've also been to Rhodes at that time and it was warmer and sunnier.

That's Pollenca you are talking about? Argh this is such a minefield 😂 id initially looked at Pollenca but read awful weather stories, seeing as it's the very end of October!

Love Rethymno and Chania, both have beautiful old towns. The first is ideal if you want to see a bit of East and West, if you don't mind travelling.

Weather is more likely to be warm in Crete compared to Majorca.

Yes Pollensa. We had much better weather there than in Crete though agree with pp that Crete should be better as more Southern.

The Med can be unpredictable in October. IME it can be anything from mid-high 20s and gorgeous, sunny weather, to grey and drizzly. You just have to book somewhere that will be reasonably comfortable if the weather isn't great.
