Where to stay between Ottawa and Niagara Falls

We are travelling to Canada in September. I have never been before and we’re taking our 3 month old baby. We have planned a route on the east (will do the west when little one is a bit bigger) comprising of Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa and Niagara Falls. This holiday is going to be much slower paced than previous holidays and we’re stopping more often than we would have without baby.

Can anyone suggest a stop between Ottawa and Niagara Falls? We’d love to spend a night somewhere a bit outdoorsy if possible but still a hotel / Airbnb rather than camping.

Thanks in advance

It's a long time since I visited but Niagara-on-the-Lake is beautiful, much nicer than the town around Niagara Falls.

Toronto is on route but if you want somewhere different you could stop over at Thousand Islands on the St Lawrence River.

Second Niagara on the Lake! Although it’s not in the right direction as south of Toronto, it’s lovely.

Edited

I mean to add that 🤣 It's worth the extra journey though.

That’s where we’re heading but will stop in Niagara itself too although it looks a bit like Blackpool 😅

For full transparency, I’ve never been to Blackpool either

I would stop off in Prince Edward County. Picton, the main town, is about 2 hours 40 from Ottawa, and another 3 hours 20 or so on to Niagara Falls. Picton is a lovely little town. We stayed in an air BnB, not an “outdoorsy” kind of place, but just a really sweet little house a few minutes walk from the Main Street. PEC is a gorgeous part of the world, would you just be looking for a one night stop off, or a longer stay?

Thank you! I’ll have a look at Picton. Yes, just the single night stay

We've just got back from 2 weeks in Toronto. Niagara is amazing. You'll have a great trip

What route are you taking, via Algonquin or further south along the river?
we did a self planned road trip last year from Toronto via Niagara to Ottawa and stayed here near Barrie for a few nights to break it up and to see friends.

We al so stayed in Algonquin but I wouldn’t recommend where we stayed but the National Park was amazing and we would go again in a heartbeat.
Enjoy,( Niagara is a bit Blackpool like but still amazing- definitely go for the walk by the falls it was really quiet)

If you’re a fan of Schitts Creek, you could stay in Goodwood, just outside of Toronto, which was the shows filming location.

I visited the exact places you’ve mentioned a few years back - you’ll have a great time!
