What time of year? There are a lot of restrictions for dogs in July and August.
We stayed at a campsite both times we visited.

We live in one of the towns on lake Annecy, a lot of the towns are pretty strict on dogs being on the lead all the time and police do fine people for dogs being off lead.
Are you thinking hotel or camping? Take a look at all the towns around the lake, Menthon Saint Bernard, Saint Jorioz, Duignt, Talloire, Veyrier du lac and Sevrier all have their own beauty and charm.
Everyone cycles as the one road around the lake gets extremely congested so bring your bikes or hire some for days out.
It really depends what you want to see, are you sporty and enjoy hiking or want to enjoy the towns or into water sports?

Would like to do a bit of everything- hiking, towns, bit of water. Would potentially have young adults with us . Is there a bus service round the lake?

Was thinking of a cottage or gite due to dog, pref with some kind of water access in case dogs prohibited from all the lake access beaches . Which beaches are dog friendly?
