European suggestions for 4 nights break in November (10 year wedding anniversary)

Hi all,

It's my husbands and It's 10 year wedding anniversary in November and we are struggling to find somewhere we want to go. We originally thought snowy mountains (Switzerland) but turns out it's between seasons there and won't be any snow...then we really fancied Tromso in Norway, but again unlikely to be snow although we could potentially see the Northern Lights.

We did Amsterdam last year, have been to Prague, Madrid, Paris, Brussels and Bruges in the last few years but was hoping for something a little more exciting than another city break, with more activities. I don't know why but neither of us really fancy Iceland! We've given up on snow now but November doesn't seem to be a great place to go anywhere in Europe 🤣🤣 Any one got any unicorn suggestions?! We've got 4 nights, potentially could stretch to 5

Thanks!

Salzburg is lovely. They have a boat that waltzed on the shallow river to Straus waltz music. They have a palace and a zoo as well as trick gardens.

Oo yes, I always fancied Salzburg actually, will take a look! Trick gardens?! Clowns jumping out of bushes?! 🤣

Istanbul? Not particularly for different activities but plenty to do and feels less European and more interesting. It felt very safe.

Another city break but Budapest is lovely. Bit different and no idea on weather is Sicily, Taormina specifically, lovely place.

Would it be too early for Xmas markets? Could go to Cologne?

We had a lovely winter weekend in Malaga, but may be too chilled. Nice to see some sun in the winter though.

Would Krakow or Warsaw have your wintry conditions? Or Copenhagen?

Not Europe but Marrakesh would be a good option doubt it too hot in November.

5 nights and you could go further than Europe. We went to NYC for 4 nights in December. November and you could go pre thanksgiving and it would be decorated for it.

I went to Lisbon in November and it was very pleasant. You could take a day trip to Cascais.

WhereAreWeNow · 27/07/2025 16:44

Copenhagen would be cold but pretty at that time of year.
Or you could head south for some sun. Seville or Valencia would be nice in November. Not hot but warmer and sunnier than the UK.

DH and I often travel in Oct/Nov. Last year we went to Budapest the last week of Nov. The Christmas markets were ok but the highlight was the Gellert hot springs. We spent all day there and loved wandering from pool to pool and then in and out of the sauna and steam rooms. There was some sitting snow when we arrived, but only a little. Wandering along the Danube and the city was lovely

I too as going to suggest Iceland, which we did in Dec. I know you aren't keen though. We only stayed 4 days and loved it. Days were short, but things were open all day. Its was very heavy snow fall when we were there and we wore salopettes and ski jackets every day. The bus companies were brilliant for tours to Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall, hot springs and Northern lights.

Malaga city itself is great. Lots to see an do and easy to walk around. We caught the train to Rhonda which was a wonderful day trip.

Sicily is another option. We spent 2 weeks travelling all over but as someone else suggested, Taormina is lovely for just a few days.

Have been to Athens in November and the weather was ideal - denim jacket and sunglasses. It's also a stunning city.

See also Seville for beauty and "clement" winter weather.

Happy anniversary 💕

I was in Athens for work in a November. It wasn't burning or baking and was pleasantly mild with a capital city's worth of things to do (which I only did a little of as I was busy).

We always used to go to Venice in November. It is ‘bassa stagione’, the really low season for tourists so you can still feel the ancient city. It is cold, but very romantic, lots of mist on the canals and the lagoon, and the lights on the water gleam. Stay right in the middle so you can walk around in the evening.

Cinaferna · 27/07/2025 16:51

Budapest is the most romantic city I've ever been to. You could laze around in one of the stunning spas with thermally heated outdoor pools, have a Danube cruise, cycle or walk around the island, go for cocktails in the ruin bars, or coffee and cake in one of the beautiful ornate cafes. There's loads to explore - the secret cave hospital, the cave church, the Terror museum (not romantic but interesting) art galleries, opera, concerts, markets, very glamorous fashion shops. Or take the funicular and the children's railway and ski lift up the mountain for walks in the hills with spectacular views.

Cinaferna · 27/07/2025 16:54

We went to Lisbon in October. It was hot but it was also heaving with tourists, as if it were high season. Might be quieter in November. Loads to do, and a trip out to the crazy palaces and gardens of Sintra is unforgettable.

CosyNavyLeader · 27/07/2025 16:55

Madeira?

Some really fancy hotels if you wanted something a bit more special for your anniversary.
