Summer Alps holiday - Seefeld or Engelberg

Planning summer holiday next year and narrowed it down to Seefeld in Tirol or Engelberg in Switzerland. But can’t decide between the two!

Seefeld would be significantly cheaper and has the Hotel Haymon that gets much praise on here. But Engelberg looks like it gets much less rainfall in summer. It’s a long way to go to look at rain for a week!

Both about the same travel time (2hrs transfer from either Munich (Seefeld) or Zurich (Engelberg)

Can anyone help me decide one way or the other?!

I’ve never been to Engelberg, so don’t know for certain, but from what I gather the walks/hikes are more mountainous and the activities on offer are a bit more extreme/adventurous. Seefeld has some lovely easy family-friendly walks, and plenty of activities for the whole family.

Engelberg has easy access to a glacier (via rotating cablecar) and mountainous or flat walking paths. The valley is more spectacular than Seefeld which is a bit more pastoral and wider. Amenities like swimming pool, golf, cablecars are pretty similar. Engelberg has a cheese producing monastery, good on wet days. You could visit Lucerne or Innsbruck for a change of scene.

Just back from Saalbach and the weather forecast was poor .
However , the reality was that it brightened every day we were there and was warm and pleasant. So don't let that deter you .
Have to return next year . Best holiday ever !!

I've been to Hotel Haymon and loved it - the food is amazing. You get a pass for the bus and we did trips to the gorge and Mittenwald on the train. Big pool complex plus another one on the lake front. Funicular and cable car. Horse drawn carriage ride. Some nice walks - the hotel has a "menu" with activities for each day.

Switzerland is eye-wateringly expensive for everything. I am not hard up but still winced at the cost of cable cars etc.

This thread is old and you are probably sorted but we did Seefeld (and Hotel Haymon) last summer. It rained everyday but we still had a great time, enough breaks in the weather to enjoy fantastic walks. And fantastic swimming pool to use when very soggy. Hoping to go back and explore more next summer.

Thanks @sherbertdibdab - in the end we decided to start in Vienna for a few days and then head over to Wolfgangsee for the mountain/lake vibes - flying out of Salzburg (the flights worked much better for us than trying to get to either Seefeld or Engelberg)

However I still want to go to Hotel Haymon some time so good to hear you enjoyed it!

Where did you stay at Wolfgangsee @HerbertVonDoodlebug ? I'm currently trying to narrow plans down in that area.
