Package holiday travel to Alonissos

Hi all. Looking at Alonissos for a break next year. I’ve seen some package deals- times look good for the ferries and assume it’s kind of a coach from the airport to the ferry; leave luggage on the coach and then can roam on the ferry to be back sat down for disembark. Has anyone tried this before? Thanks

This is quite a specific question. I've not done a package holiday to Alonissos but I've gone with Easyjet and TUI to other islands in Europe. In these cases it was a taxi to the ferry port, few hours wait mooching around, get yourself on the ferry and meet another driver at the other end. Our luggage was our own responsibility. I think you'd need to check the specifics with the travel company, but it's going to be cheaper for them to use local drivers than to pay to ferry a coach about so I'd assume it will be similar.

Thanks @owlexpress- I’m quite surprised how little information there is without asking more questions for a few of the companies I’ve been looking to book with. Your experiences sound good to me, I’d be happy with that arrangement.

We flew to Skiathos. Then walked down to ferry port. It’s fun to watch the planes taking off and landing as they come straight over the water and can blow you off your feet! If you have booked a package, they may take you in a minibus and put your cases in a pile on the quay. The ferry is delightful, stopping at skopelos. We saw dolphins and flying fish close up. This is a small quite traditional island with very few hotels. We loved how quiet and remote it is.

Thanks @Britishtrees- it really does sound amazing and I appreciate your insight.

I'm in Skopelos at the moment (same island group). We flew into Skiathos and then got a taxi to the port (10 mins, 15 euros, then grab a frappe or beer at the harbour until boat time). The boat to the island was small and as it's not that far between islands, i'd imagine you're more likely to have to do what Owlexpress says. Could be worth pricing it up to travel independently if you'd feel confident doing that - may get a better deal on same accommodation. You can book boats easily through Ferryhopper. We didn't use a travel agent and it's all been very straightforward but Skopelos has a really good bus network. Not sure on the situation on Alonissos.

I know there are package holidays to where we are staying at the moment and saw a few people being dropped off by taxis this afternoon and presume they were on a package and picked up from one of the ports here.

Thanks @OneOfTheThreethat all sounds great. The more I hear the more I think it’s just the right kind of holiday for us.

The only thing that made us choose Skopelos over Alonissos was that we wanted sun loungers on the beach and there were more options here but appreciate that is not everyone's taste. Alonissos looks amazing. Skopelos is certainly beautiful and the sea is incredible. Will look forward to hearing where you decide to go!

Are package holidays available to Alonissos? I used to travel to Greek islands like this booking independently. Flew to Athens, Train to Pyreus, then bought Greek ferry tickets through the ferry company Daneos to different islands.
I'd love to do this again now I have kids but with the security of it being a package deal.

@OneOfTheThreethank you! I’ve just remembered that a friend of mine did some island hopping last year so going to ask her about that over dinner next week!
