Austria and Tick Borne Encephalitis Vaccinations

We've just booked a holiday for July 2026 in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in Austria (me, DH and DD who will be 10). I know quite a few MNers have been on Austrian summer holidays, and wondered if you all got vaccinated for tick borne encephalitis? I have an Austrian friend who strongly recommended that we do, which has made me feel rather nervous! We're not the most "outdoorsy" family generally but we will be in countryside and going for walks etc.

Yes, we did. It is quite expensive but you get coverage for 3 years. I read a description of the disease and thought yep, let's do it. Given where you are going I would do it. We wore long trousers as well for walks (walking trousers so very thin, cheap from Decathlon). Because you can get cable cars and buses etc often, you don't need to be great walkers to access the amazing mountains - we've been to the Tyrol twice but looked at round where you are going too.

I think you're right - it's worth it. I'm going to be anxious enough about ticks as it is without worrying we might get encephalitis as well! Walking trousers are a good shout.
