Hello. We were due to visit family which has now fallen through and are a bit overwhelmed at deciding what to do instead this summer (on leave from 28 July for a week! 😬) Everything is so expensive. Would love to go somewhere in Europe, half board or self catering and not too mad a price! I suspect I’m looking for a unicorn here but if anyone has any recommendations they don’t mind sharing, that’d be amazing. Thank you 🙏

Put your details into a holiday search engine e.g. TUI and see what it brings up.

How many people? What ages? Where will you travel from/can you travel from? What kind of budget?

Thank you so much for the replies! We are 2 adults and one 11 year old girl. Travelling from London, ideally for around £1000 max but I am realising this may not be realistic. We’ve not really booked a proper holiday before if you see what I mean as we usually visit family and the last few years have been sorting family stuff so would love a proper break. Been googling a bit but just overwhelmed as so much out there but not in our budget. Grateful for any pointers x

Check out skyscanner for flights to anywhere out of your closest airports on your chosen dates and then look at accommodation on booking.com or Airbnb and see if there’s anything suitable for your budget. Alternatively look at campsites in France and price up the ferry or euro tunnel.

Honestly OP the flights alone to a European holiday destination in the school hols could easily cost near 1000 with bags and at very short notice 😫

If you look on TUI they have a week in Zante for £330pp going from Gatwick, self-catering apartment.

Several others for slightly more than that including other bits of Greece, Spain and Turkey.

Fly to Faro in Portugal and search for self catering accommodation in one of the resorts along the Algarve. I can recommend Lagos, you'll need a car but it's got lovely restaurants and not too 'Brits abroad'.

Last minute.com has plenty of packages for that week under £1000 - Menorca might be nice

13planets · 15/07/2025 20:31

Oh I’m sorry I got wrong end of stick - ignore my pp. I had filtered on price per person

Just wanted to come back to this thread to say huge thanks for all the ideas! We went to Menorca for a week with jet2 for about £1300 for the 3 of us and had a fab time. Was so frazzled when I posted and the replies really spurred me on so thank you xxx
