A while ago I worked with an elderly Japanese lady who gave me her card and said to please visit her any time I was in Tokyo. Well I’ll be in Tokyo soon. I’ve read in some places that this is just a custom to invite people to visit you and they don’t actually mean for you to visit them - it’s just polite to offer (kind of like in the uk you might say to an acquaintance “we should catch up soon!” When you bump into them in the street - this is not a direct invitation, it’s more a polite thing to say). Would it be weird to actually visit her? Sorry for my ignorance, it would be lovely to see her again but I don’t want to show up if culturally it was just a politeness and not a sincere invitation.
