Am going on a 17 hour plane ride soon with 9 mo DTs and am planning on buying a few new toys to keep them occupied on the journey. Does anyone have any recommendations for things that I should look for?

Also, any tips in general would be very welcome!!

Do you have a set of stacking cups? DS used to spend hours playing with them, still does in fact. Best 99p I've ever spent!

Bumping this as flying 23 hours with dd soon so interested in answers.

(At the mo she seems to like mirrors and anything that makes a noise)

We took a huge bag of new toys for our 11 mo on our trip to NZ. We didn't take anything with too many parts in case they got spread across the plane, and nothing that made too much noise. We took

  • little Fisher Price tractor with a bumpy back, with a cow, sheep and chicken that stick on top
  • a cheap "mobile phone" from Tesco
  • a couple of "Bright Sparks" teether toys that are one-piece but do stuff
  • first years tortoise on wheels
  • chicco train with attachments for a buggy
-a Tinylove fabric and plastic "book"
  • stacking cups
  • the very hungry caterpillar board book

We put them all in a net buggy bag so that they were together and didn't take up space in our bags. She then had that to play with on holiday as well.

Ask stewardess for a box of hankies - lots of fun pulling hankies out of box (worked for our 10 month old on flight to Malaysia!)

Flew with 11 month old a few months back - took a toiletry bag full of bits and pieces that I had found around the house/got from 99p shop.

From memory:
a sponge, bead necklace, plastic mirror, a cd, peg, 2 wee cars, a shoe lace with some pasta and buttons strung onto it, an old mobile phone, etc

Ds loved pulling all of the things out and chewing/playing/throwing/looking at them.

The good thing was that we had about a dozen "toys" that could all fit into a wee bag.
