Before I melt in the heat thought I’d ask. We are going to a festival for the first time at the end of the month. Not sure what to take to make our life easier. Any hints or tips would be gratefully appreciated. Kids are 5 and 9.
I’ve checked a previous post on tent storage which had fab idea

We put a cheap coir doormat in the tent entrance. Really helps to not transfer lots of mud/grass/crap into the tent.

A good spacious rucksack or similar to lug stuff around during the day. Ideally lots of compartments.

Lots of bin bags. . They come in useful for SO many things…. blackout blinds for tent windows if the sun’s too bright, dirty washing bags, rubbish bags (obvs), emergency waterproofing material, ‘socks’ if an unexpected hole in a welly etc etc.

Walkie talkie if the phone signal isn’t good or if you want to give your older dc a bit of extra freedom.

Dry shampoo
Wet wipes
Glow sticks
Festival/camping trolley
Toilet roll (in a waterproof bag)
Ear plugs for sleeping
Ear defenders for the dc
Calpol sachets
Temporary tattoos
Microfibres towels
Sachets of instant coffee
Camping chairs
Power bank

  • Cool box with ice blocks
  • Portable stove and kettle
  • Reusable water bottles
  • Cereal bars, fruit pouches, crisps, etc.
  • Washing up bowl, sponge, and liquid
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Toilet roll
  • Fold-up camping chairs
  • Decorate your tent for easy spotting
  • Ear defenders or noise-cancelling headphones
  • Portable phone charger
  • Spare shoes/ wellies , can get muddy in rain

A tent with more berths than you need. If the weather is shit you will need the space.

If it is camp bestival, take things like breakfast bars, crisps, mini bags of haribo, cans of drink/capri suns/drinks bottles, water bottles and most of a trolley (you can hire but they are £££ fir 15 mins, youngest may well nap in it in the evening too. (Top tip: “empty” a vimto or other similar coloured drink bottle and take Aldi fake Pimm’s and bottles of lemonade to decant into now empty bottle, they officially don’t allow alcohol into the festival site but you can have it in the camp site)Grin see also gin and lemonade

5 litre water bottle and a funnel. Makes a fab camping toilet for a pee in the middle of the night!

Write your mobile number on the kids arms in case you get separated

Bookcovermisleading · 12/07/2025 16:34
