Imagine you have an unlimited budget and you want to take a family of 4 on holiday, where would you go and where would you stay?

Disneyworld. Polynesian or Grand Floridian Resort week 1, Universal Hard Rock Hotel week 2.

Needmorelego · 09/07/2025 13:37

Campervan trip around the UK.
Overnight sometimes we'd camp, sometimes stay in a hotel.

Ohhhh I’d do that too, but Grand Floridian week one, Animal Kingdom Lodge week two!

I also reallllly want to do Ikos - in theory it’s affordable if we saved, but we’re not very AI-y people and I worry about spending all that money for it to not be our cup of tea. First thing I’d book if I won the Euros though.

A cruise on a really luxurious cruise ship stopping off at various destinations...maybe around the Carribbean

MissAmbrosia · 09/07/2025 13:41

Unlimited? I'd charter a yacht and sail around the Med. Sardinia, Corsica, Aeolian Islands etc.

brushthepot · 09/07/2025 13:41

It does depend on the children, their ages and interests and what they want but we did the whole once in a lifetime trip to Disney and Universal. Sadly it just made us want to go back and so we did, again and again Grin

There is an incredible place in Cancun Mexico, Xcaret hotels and parks, incorporating Mexican heritage and culture, incredible shows, beautiful area.

New Zealand, closer to home Italy and the Greek islands.

TurquoiseDress · 09/07/2025 13:42

Bora Bora in French Polynesia

reversegear · 09/07/2025 13:43

I’d say Japan.. in lovely hotels.

Fleur405 · 09/07/2025 13:45

There’s a hotel somewhere in Africa that iw pretty expensive but they have tame giraffes who come up to your bedroom window looking for food. My daughter would love that.

also Costa Rica.

We'd go to Universal/Disney every year if we could.

A month in Japan and South Korea.

2catsand2kids · 09/07/2025 14:00

It depends on the age of the children, but probably either Costa Rica or a Safari somewhere.

ooooohlala · 09/07/2025 14:00

Japan, and a Safari

suburberphobe · 09/07/2025 14:04

Hawaii

Anywhere truly accessible, where people didn't stop and stare because he makes strange sounds or has random body movements or has a seizure. Anywhere that a wheelchair was no obstacle to accessing the beach, somewhere with beach wheelchairs so he could dip his toes in the sea and somewhere where accessible accommodation was truly accessible with hoists, lifts, profiling beds, shower/bath seats and space inside to be out on the floor for a stretch. Somewhere his needs were met as well as they are for the other members of the family.

TheMaskedAvenger · 09/07/2025 14:18

Japan seems very popular!

where would you go and what would you do?

Antartica. On a plush cruise, to spot icebergs, wildlife. Once in a life time stuff. Or possibly the Galápagos Islands.

JustAnInchident · 09/07/2025 15:59

New Zealand, campervan interspersed with fancy hotel stays, at least four weeks. Ah the dream. DH and I spent a lot of time living, working and travelling over there both together and separately in the dim and distant past (not that distant, just feels it!) and I’d love to take our babies back. Plus we’ve a wedding to go to over there next year so making it a massive amazing road trip would be top tier.

marshmallowfinder · 09/07/2025 16:00

Switzerland.

Caramelty · 09/07/2025 16:00

We’d ski,and stay in a gorgeous lodge. Somewhere in Canada probably.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 09/07/2025 16:03

I saw a package with a trip to the cloud forests in Ecuador followed by a cruise around the Galapagos. I’d like to do that. Don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford it though.

TizerorFizz · 09/07/2025 19:19

@Fleur405 it’s Giraffe manor just outside Nairobi.

@TheMaskedAvenger There are huge threads on Japan on this board. Endless suggestions!

With our DC, a big hit was a crewed yacht in the British Virgin Islands. Cruise ships - absolutely not. We got into small harbours, great reefs for snorkeling and fab food. We have done similar in the Galapagos Islands - but 12 on the yacht. We also enjoyed safaris in Kenya and South Africa with dc. Obviously dc must like animals and get up early but these were fab holidays. Dc never asked to go to Disney and we would have refused anyway. Other holidays are so much nicer as you can have individual attention and a more intimate experience for your not inconsiderable sum of money.

sophistitroll · 09/07/2025 22:28

Absolutely not Disney that’s for sure. I think Sri Lanka or Japan

ps IKOS is amazing

Alarae · 09/07/2025 22:32

As we have never been, it would be a blowout Disneyworld holiday. Staying in the Animal hotel on site, having private tour guides so we could skip the queues, meal plan, the lot!

I would also love to go to Canada (in the Spring/Summer - have been in Winter and it was gorgeous) and Japan.

Responding to someone else- we have been to two different IKOS over the last couple of years and while they are lovely, our recent one was a bit lacking (Aria in May half term).

evtheria · 09/07/2025 22:38

We’d happily go to many places but if someone said I’d get £25k to spend on ‘one holiday’ then:
Japan, 3 weeks - we’d do Tokyo, of course, and the various theme parks (Disney, Ghibli, Mario), but also traditional homestays/inns in picturesque or historical areas, whilst eating all the food!

Edit: this would be to please everyone. I’d love a long, exploratory trip of Oman, but it’s not something super high up on either DP or DC’s list!
