How much is too much?

Hlo. We are looking at booking a holiday abroad for summer school holidays. The one we want is 6150 for 14 night all inclusive 4 star 2 adults and a teen.... is this too expensive? It is for turkey but other countries seem to be of similar if not higher priced ....

Pretty good value for 2 weeks at a good hotel at fairly short notice I’d say . Still a lot of money and only you can decide if it’s too much or not.

Twilightstarbright · 08/07/2025 17:40

I’m paying 4.5k for a week- admittedly it’s a swim up suite so not the cheapest option but I think it seems reasonable assuming it’s a decent hotel.

I wouldn't pay that but it's your holiday

Muchtoomuchtodo · 08/07/2025 21:25

Lots of things are charged extra for. In 2 weeks I expect you’ll want to visit the a la cartes a few times and enjoy a drink in your room. Be careful - these things can really add up

londongirl12 · 08/07/2025 21:36

I think it looks a bit dated for £6k to be honest. But everything is going to be expensive for this year if you book it now.

Hodgemollar · 08/07/2025 21:37

How much is too much?

When you can’t easily afford it.

OurMavis · 08/07/2025 21:38

It wouldn't be my choice but for 3 adults the price seems reasonable.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 09/07/2025 10:34

Some people spend £10k plus on a week because they want luxury and can afford it, other like somewhere more budget friendly either because that’s what they can afford or because they think spending money on 5* AI luxury is a waste and would rather spend money elsewhere.

personally I prefer to spend less on the hotel so we can do and see more whilst away, but we’re all different.

What matters is whether it is too much for you. It doesn’t seem a horrific price for 2 weeks for 3 adults (teen likely counts as an adult).

Preachscreen · 09/07/2025 17:14

Yeh she does count as an adult now, unfortunatly and painful! Ha ha. It's hard to justify the price but then what do we work for otherwise?

It’s seems pricey to me for Turkey.

We are doing 16 days in Asia, so long haul flights, 4-5 star hotels, touring around every few days with private guide and
driver. Plus safaris. For around the same price.

TimeForABreak4 · 09/07/2025 17:22

I think that's pretty good, I normally pay 3k for a week self catering for four. Paid 1100 per person for a week all inclusive last October in Turkey, 5 star. So for two weeks it's pretty decent.

Chewbecca · 09/07/2025 17:25

£155pppn
Only you can decide if it's worth that to you or not, plus whether you can afford it.
We cruise a lot, some trips cost less than that, some quite a bit more, I have a rough max price for each ship / itinerary!

SwedishEdith · 09/07/2025 17:32

We're just back from 12 nights away. Self catering, 2 adults, Mediterranean city plus another destination. I added up the total cost the other day and it's almost exactly the same pp as your trip.

Crushed23 · 10/07/2025 04:30

I think teenagers count as adults for these kinds of bookings, so you’re paying around £1k per adult per week. Seems reasonable to me.

Itstwelveoclocksomewhere · 10/07/2025 04:46

6.5K sounds like a lot but for all inclusive in a nice hotel it is probably an okay price.

We spent 4K for 3 adults and one child which is more than I’m happy spending We did some self catering and some eating out in local restaurants but easily spent €150 a day when not self catering. Next year we will go for one week only

Tumblingthrough · 10/07/2025 04:47

Only you know if you can afford it but tbh, I would treasure these holidays with a teenager. Mine are older and holiday memories are moments we all look back on and remember fondly.

Also, I know someone who has recently been to that exact hotel (5th Tui holiday for them) and they said it was amazing and have already booked for next year

TheCurious0range · 10/07/2025 04:53

Not for that hotel in Turkey tbh. We're paying similar for Greece 2 adults and a six year old.

Well it depends how you are for money overall. If it's taking most of your 'fun' budget, I'd say it's too expensive. Likewise if you need anything like a new car, new windows etc, it could cover something like that instead.

If you don't want to spend £6k on a holiday, don't go AI and don't go for 2 weeks.

I'd probably go for a week SC or B&B in an aparthotel and then eat out once a day, stock up with drinks, snacks and ice creams from the supermarket and have easy food the rest of the time. You could probably do that for about £2k and then have £4k to save or spend on other things.

Preachscreen · 10/07/2025 08:34

I don't know I think this but I've looked at Greece and the spec of hotels is lower than Turkey unless you pay more than thus. Unfortunatly my teen is counted as an adult rather than a child.

All 13+ year olds will count as adults tor flights and accommodation.

Is there anything you’d like to see/visit in Turkey?

The only place I’d be interested in seeing there is Istanbul to be honest.

Have you thought about doing one week in Turkey and another somewhere else e.g. one of the Greek islands?

If you aren’t interested in sightseeing, then just choose the hotel you think you will all like more…
or spend one week in Turkey and go away again at midterm?

DaisyChain505 · 10/07/2025 10:41

It’s all relative.

Im off on a 7k holiday for 7 days just me and my partner. Yes its alot of money but we value our holidays and can manage to pay it without getting into debt etc.

Dutchhouse14 · 10/07/2025 14:51

I think for 2weeks AI for 3 adults it's probably the going rate. It is expensive, holidays are.
I'm sure youve shopped around so its too much then go for 1 week or 10days or go self catering or to a different destination.
We are on holiday atm in crete, beautiful villa with private pool. I'm trying to block out the cost!!!

Preachscreen · 10/07/2025 22:11

Thanks for the great advice! It is hard to weigh up with house maintenance etc as it's such a bottomless pit! I've never done self catering abroad is it quite easy? We do like to fly and flop tho as our jobs just exhaust us by the time AL arrives :/
