Any recommendations for honeymoon destinations? Want something lovely and relaxing but also with plenty to do!

Depends on time of year and what you like. We went to Taormina in August. Loads to do (culture, food, sea, volcano). Fabulous.

AvidJadeShaker · 03/07/2025 17:26

What time of year?

Crushed23 · 03/07/2025 17:47

Definitely avoid Sicily in August. I went in late September one year and that was hot enough.

What time of year are you travelling?
How long do you want to go away for?
Long haul or short haul?
Any kids coming with you?

Congratulations on your wedding!

We went to Australia, it was July/August so Sydney was chilly in evenings but stayed at the Shangri-La, it was amazing - then flew up to Whitsundays and stayed on Hamilton island, it was totally fabulous. Truly a once in a lifetime holiday we still talk about 23 years later!!

We went to Sorrento. Went to Capri by hydrofoil. The Amalfi coast is stunning.
For a bit of history we visited Pompeii and Vesuvius. Also did a day trip to Rome .

Locanda san Vigilio, Lake Garda. Lovely hotel and close to lots of places to visit.

Caribbean cruise!

We went to see polar bears in the Hudson Bay in Canada. I think you are looking more for a Costa Rica/ Belize/ Cuba type beach holiday though. You don't say what time of year though, which makes a difference.

Thank you for all the ideas!

I was going to say Bali too - fabulous mix of relaxation and fascinating things to see. If I did it again I’d stop somewhere like Singapore for a couple of days on the way there.

MissFritton65 · 05/07/2025 07:03

We went to South Africa; did a luxury train for a couple of days, Cape Town, wine region and then flew to Kruger and did a safari. Absolutely perfect!

Indonesia (not just Bali), Komodo and even Borneo

We stayed on a boat in Komodo and I’d describe that as once in a lifetime https://anandacruises.com

If you have a big budget go to Tanzania and Zanzibar. Some of the camps we stayed in and the experience of the migration was phenomenal.

PRIVATE CHARTER ANANDA - The original Komodo Private Charter Boat

ANANDA - the different experience on our unique boat with amazing atmosphere. Liveaboard for dive charters, family holidays, snorkeling, trekking, relaxing

Thank you so much!
I've looked at Zanzibar but it seems so many people go there. But there's obviously a reason why!
I'm terrible...I want to go absolutely everywhere!

I married in 2008, and we had our honeymoon in a lovely hotel in Cyprus (sadly, the hotel closed down during the pandemic 😔). We had a few days relaxing by the pool and then spent the rest of the time exploring the island.

Not sure that many go in absolute terms, not sure you can fly direct. We went via Addis Ababa - Ethiopian airlines were fab.

It’s not as lux as other Indian Ocean destinations, but it’s got so much more.

In all honesty the locations we stayed in Tanzania were breathtaking (and I won’t be coy, I’ve travelled a lot)

We went to Mauritius. Just enough to do that we did alternate days out vs days by the pool / beach. Just lovely.

If you are thinking about ttc soon after the honeymoon, make sure you check for recent Zika cases. We ended up scrapping our original plan of a split Sri Lanka / Maldives trip as there had been zika in the Maldives the year before we were planning to go.

We did South Africa - Cape Town, wine country, garden route and safari. Absolutely incredible with just so much to do (we went para gliding, sky diving, wine tram, up table mountain and so much more). Truly brilliant but not sure I’d call it particularly relaxing!

also had a wonderful holiday in the Maldives. I was worried my husband might get bored but we were at a slightly larger island which had plenty to do. So lots of walks, bike riding, picnics on the beach, jet skiing, boat trips, snorkelling, spa treatments, yoga, paddle boarding and eating! Didn’t get remotely bored, it was incredible!
