Berlin welcome card - how useful is it ?

Going to Berlin with my 18 year old son in July. I’ve been before but literally 30 years ago and just can’t remember whether we used the underground system much.

Obviously the Berlin card gets you money off entry to some of these places like the DDR museum and makes using the public transport system a bit simpler but at over 100 euro for 2 I just wondered if anyone had bought one, particularly when travelling with a teen. The card gets you a discount with kids but only under 14 sadly so DS is a few years too old ! He’s just finished A’levels so still has his student ID card for sixth form but not sure if that’s valid to prove his status for student discounts.
Can anyone help or advise !
Just to add, we’re staying in Wittenbergplatz which isn’t that far from the Zoo but not really central.

I went with my young adult child last year. He is not that into museums, so I bought the 6 day travel pass from the airport which gave good travel options and some discounts. We hardly did any of the big museums so little point.

You can buy a weekly travel card for the S- and U-Bahn. There is also the option to get an extension if you want to go to Potsdam for example or the airport.

We looked up the card when we went with DD, then 17, for 5 days; we found that the reduced entry fee wasn’t really enough to justify the card. Some of the bigger museums are still closed as well.

I went with DS12 earlier in the year. I didn’t pre-book any travel tickets and found the whole system really cheap and easy to use day-day.

How long will you be staying in Berlin OP? And what are you planning on doing, what does your son want to do in terms of sightseeing? That would affect my choice.

Did you buy 24hr tickets or just single tickets?
