I don't think Portugal will be warms enough at easter (unless you don't want it lying on a sunlounger sort of warm), the canaries would give you a better guarantee of warmer weather. Also remember that your 17yr old may need to be booked as an adult if they turn 18 while they're there.
What sort of holiday do you want? Sightseeing, city break, lying by the pool all week, activities??

If it's the very first holiday abroad for all of you then I'd try to make it as easy as possible. Maybe a package with everything included, transfers, all inclusive etc. Then you don't need to worry about anything. I would look for accommodation next to a beach - makes it so much easier than travelling to one every day

Have you all got passports? If not, apply now so you have them.

I agree that the Canaries would probably be your best bet. Think about what sort of accommodation you want and how you plan to eat. All inclusive or an apartment/villa and eating out combined with supermarket food? You probably want two rooms with the older two in a separate room, otherwise a lot of places that say 'sleeps 4 to 6' will have 2 people on a sofa bed.

Also whether you want somewhere lively or more laid back.

Would the older teens like access to something like a water park? Are you/they interested in the outdoors - in Lanzarote you can visit the volcano park and caves as well as watersports?
