Please can anyone advise on things to do, see, nice restaurants etc for a day in Margate with kids? (Aside from the obvious Dreamland, beach etc )

Shell grotto
margate caves
Turner contemporary
arcades
hot donuts
old town charity bookshop on the corner (used to be a bank)
there is a really nice pizza by the slice place in the centre of town near the Costa

The crab museum, seems to be just weekend opening.

Came to ask the same! I’ve come down for a few days with the kids and it feels like night of the living dead!

If you’re looking for something to keep the children occupied in the rain, I would head to Westwood cross which is a shopping centre nearby. It has Elev8 (a jump park) jump inc, vue cinema, Hollywood bowl, Nando’s etc all within walking distance of each other.

Thanks. We had a walk along the beach and a trip to aldi 💃 We’re going to go to dreamland today (if I can find the entrance) I’m just shocked at the lack of people and how run down it is. The place just seems so unloved

We went to Margate, lasted an hour and moved over to Herne Bay. It was really quite unpleasant.

There is a Hornby museum at Westwood if your kids are into trains.

Thanks, not trying to define them by their gender but they’re teenage girls and not really their thing. They’re having a lovely time swimming in the sea. Crazy how empty the beach is. I just don’t get it. Will definitely check out the shell grotto and very much intrigued by the crab museum!

There are 2 escape rooms in Margate. We prefer the escapement but both are good.

Broadstairs just round the corner has much nicer beaches and is where most go

Margate is pretty much only open at the weekends, so that may be why it feels so dead now. I went to the caves recently, not sure I would recommend it tbh, not least of all because it only really takes about half an hour to do.

Can highly recommend Peters factory fish and chips opposite the art gallery

It could be so much nicer than Brighton here. The caves do look quite good though so will probably check them out.

Margate on a Monday in the rain is bleak, but on a good day it’s brilliant. We are local(ish) but do Margate days out where we walk in, go to the arcades, get an ice cream, visit the bookshop, go to the Turner centre (they have loads on for kids) then grab a hot doughnut on the way home. It’s quintessential seaside but not glamorous. I think it depends where you are going in Margate. The high street is definitely grim but the old town is lovely.
