Where to spend two nights on Lake Como?

Planning our September holiday and thinking of spending two nights around Lake Como before moving on from Italy. We’ll be getting a train from Bologna and then a train on to Milan to head to Switzerland.

Can anyone recommend the best area to stay? Varenna is the one that comes up most but is it likely to be very busy in mid-September? I’ve seen videos online of the queue to trains but I’m guessing that’s more likely in July and August?

Any other areas I should look at instead? Bellagio? Lenno?

It’s for a couple in their forties- looking for a little bit of luxury and peace, nice food and wine. Not really into outdoor sports etc.

Would love some first-hand recommendations, please.

Extra bonus points for hotel recommendations- thinking old-world luxury with a lake view.

Bellano is lovely - near Varenna but quieter and has a station

I second Bellagio - easy to get around using the ferries, stunning views up and down the lake and easy road access too. Also big enough to have a good selection of shops, restaurants and accommodation options.

(although just realised the PP didn’t actually say Bellagio 🤣)

I did!

Open to all and any suggestions.

Though I’m beginning to think that maybe I’ve left it a bit late for this year. Most hotels seem to be booked up, or just have rooms left at the €1,000+ night price point 😬

Lenno is amazing, the whole area round there is easy to get to from como on a bus or taxi and central enough for boats over to Bellagio etc. we are in our 40s and loved it.

Bellagio is stunning.

We stayed in Como Town- still obviously very pretty, and nice and central in terms of catching buses/boats to the other places. Probably not as luxurious in vibes as Bellagio though!
