Looking at going to Croatia this summer. Shocked at the cost of it all. One week with flights in school hols is coming out at £2,000 for two people self catering!

It’s really expensive when you get there too! Beware!

You could probably do it for less if you wanted to. We've certainly never paid that amount but granted would never go away in peak season.

If you have to travel in the school holidays then you have to either suck it up, book very early, choose a less expensive destination or be creative.

Eg look on Skyscanner to where is cheap to fly to from your preferred airport, which will likely be cheaper if you go midweek rather than Fri/Sat. Don't take loads of luggage, it's not needed for a week in the sun.

Look on AirBnB/Vrbo/Booking.com for accommodation. You could almost certainly find a lovely holiday for half that amount, based on £150 pp return flights, around £100 per night accommodation and transfers using public transport.

Does it half to be Croatia? You could likely get a city break somewhere like Valencia, Alicante, Malaga, Palma Lisbon or Costa Brava so near Barcelona and Girona with loads of interesting cultural and historical sites as well as the beach with good value for eating out etc while you're there.

@Dollyfollyit depends where you go there a vast differences in the cost of things between somewhere touristy like Dubrovnik and Rijeka which is less well known.

@PurBal That’s probably true for sure , but still I have encountered few places with as many ‘tourist traps’ as Croatia, particularly when it comes to eating out. The worst offenders by far were secluded ‘agritourism’ places in rural areas.
