New England in the summer

I looking to go to Maine / Massachusetts in the summer for 10 days. Will probably fly to Boston. The kids will be 7 and 10. Has anyone got a suggestion of somewhere that would be good to base ourselves. Thank you

I think you should go to Rhode Island. The beaches in RI are glorious and the water is much warmer. Maine is gorgeous but the water is so so cold. We are going to RI in about three weeks and I can't wait.

Not a base, but I would visit Acadia if you can - absolutely beautiful area with plenty of water and outdoor space.
