Looking for a family friendly destination to rent a villa (Summer 2026).

Looking to rent a villa somewhere in Europe next summer holidays (July or August 2026). Haven't narrowed down any destinations yet so I'm open to any and all suggestions, but hoping for a town or similar that:

  • Bustles in the evenings, lots of eateries that is family friendly. We are big foodies so love being surrounded by good food & trying new things. But definitely not a party town.
  • Has a lovely beach that must be sandy. We may have older children with us so watersports would be good but not a deal breaker. Will definitely be 2 x 4 year olds.
  • Not a humongous drive from an airport (1 hr max)
  • Again not a deal breaker but if there are other areas of interest/good family friendly places to visit in the local area (we will hire a car) that would be good too.
  • Somewhere we can get our accommodation within walking distance of the above but set back from it slightly.

I have had Greece in my mind because I've been before and loved it, but that's a bit broad so I was hoping for some more specific suggestions of places like the above people have been and loved?

Thanks!

My first thought is Mallorca - lots of lovely resorts, beautiful inland scenery and nowhere is too far from the airport really.

The mention of watersports made me think of the coast of SW France too though - around Bordeaux and down to Biarritz is really lovely, and would probably be a bit quieter. Lots of surfing at Hendaye, Anglet and St Jean de la Luz. Lots of great food down there too, especially as you get down towards the Basque Country.
