Hi all we are off to Vietnam in three weeks struggling to find out how much spending money we need for 2 weeks for four of us, everything online seems to be aimed at US travellers. We have all hotels booked. Need to cover two meals a day for four (breakfast included in our hotels), excursions like lantern making, cookery class, and trains/buses between stops with the odd private driver. Street food ok for lunch and mid priced dinner places. I would like to take some cash and then transfer what we need to a Wise card so not paying transaction costs on my bank's debit or credit card. Thanks in advance

Generally costs are low. I don’t think I spent more than £10 on a meal and you can get great street food pho etc for about £1.50 - £3. I never had a dodgy tummy! I did a tour of the Mekong delta for about £30 and a couple of cooking courses were similarly priced.

It’s worth taking low denomination dollars for tips, but you can get dong out of ATMs although you’re limited to 3 million a day (about £100). ATMs are in all the major towns but not in rural areas.

Other advice - tampons are almost impossible to obtain. If you’re likely to need them, bring from home.

Bring clean and big notes to change for Vietnamese dong at gold shops for better rates. TP bank or VP bank for ATMs.
