Do you mean specific restaurants? Where are you going? What do you like to eat?

Trickedbyadoughnut · 11/06/2025 11:30

Yes, which part? Cuisine is pretty varied depending on whether island/coast or inland.

Parts of Istria were Italian, so loads of Italian food long owned family restaurants.

We also ate a ‘surf and turf’ diet. Nothing really fancy or local in the sense of typically Croatian.

It depends where you are going - a lot of Croatia is very Italian, especially Istria, so Italian style food is available. Other areas have a lot of meat / seafood.

Thank you.
We are staying near split.
We love sea food and like to try the local cuisine 😀

Lovely area! There'll be loads of seafood then and it's always been so delicious when we've been. Definitely try a black risotto. Lamb dishes also lovely. Be aware sometimes you don't get sides with your dish and have to order them separately, so best to check.

Oh and sometimes they don't have many dessert - I believe it's more traditional to get cake or ice cream from a separate place (although this may be just the case in the bit of Istria/the northern islands we've been too - I can't remember what it was like in Split).

Ooh - we are going to Split in September ! We stayed near Dubrovnik last year and I looked up a couple of the places we ate at in case there were you were off to. As others have said there is a lot of seafood but also risotto and some pasta. My tip would be that sometimes the restaurants up the little side streets can be better than those in main squares and tend to be cheaper.
