24 hours in Zurich

In a few weeks I’ll have a quick stopover in Zurich. Arriving at about 4pm, and leaving at about 3/4pm the next day.

I’ll have 2 DC in tow (8 and 5).

Has anyone got any recommendations of what we can do?

The Zoo is huge and you can spend all day there.
Or more relaxed, a boat ride on the lake, for example down to Rapperswil and back.

The Lindt chocolate museum

Another vote for the Lindt chocolate place, it’s wonderful. You get to learn all about the chocolate making and you also get to eat some!

I did a day trip there a few months ago. Get the train from the airport to the main station. Hop on a tram to Lake Zurich and do a boat trip. You can get off at the Lindt chocolate museum or just do a round trip.

Lindt Home of Chocolate is an absolute must-visit and it’s open until 7pm so perhaps doable on your first day. However, it’s a little way out of the centre (accessible by train). There’s a cafe at the museum, but apart from that there aren’t many other places to eat nearby.
We visited the FIFA football museum for my DS, and we all ended up really enjoying it. Lots of fun interactive exhibits.
It’s possible to do mini boat cruises on the river. Ours lasted 1.5 hours which I felt was just the right amount of time. We ate lunch onboard.

Take you swim suits. It can be very hot in the summer and the lake baths (badis) are brilliant. You can really spend all day there. Mythenquai is the best for children.

Otherwise get the train up the Uetlierg and walk back down and the zoo is excellent.

It’s a few years since I went and no kids with me so I can’t help on activities except maybe a lake boat trip? But do look at prices before you go -land be prepared! Eating out was so expensive even for basic pizza type meals.

Great ideas, thanks! The kids would love a boat ride
