Child consent letter to travel to Portugal

My 16 year old child is going on holiday to Portugal with his friend and his friends parent. I have completed a consent letter and had my signature has been witnessed by a notary. Just wanted to know if anyone has been in this situation recently and if the letter of consent is satisfactory?

We used an un notarised letter when my kids (12-17) travelled to and from Portugal where we lived and boarding school in the Uk. They usually travelled alone and were always asked to show the letter as asked about why they were travelling. I think Portugal are pretty hot on checking.

Once they had explained why they were travelling without parents and showed their letter they were always waved through passport control with no problems.
