Hi all - looking at booking a break for respite with my children and husband - sons in a SEN school and has high needs and it can become a lot and he isn’t due back to school until 8th September (he loves Butlins it’s his happy place) however Butlins in half terms is crazy busy and expensive and he hates how busy it is we’ve tried twice now and ended up leaving early and wasting a big amount of money as we left early.
so we are looking at 1st sept - 5th sept but my daughter who is in mainstream turns 5 in August and has been in school for a year already in reception will be starting year 1 and is due to start Thursday 4th - so she’ll miss 2 days of school if we book for then - I would not expect her to lie for us I plan to be very up front with the school about her brothers needs and that this will be a respite break and if they fine us they fine us it’s the first and only time we’ll be going on a term time break for the next few years due to circumstances etc my main reason for the post is I’m looking on others opinions and if anybody else’s child has missed the first two days of a new year? I feel like although she’ll miss the first two days it’s better that than she misses a 5 day week off school if we choose another date? Please let me know thoughts ❤️

Is it too short notice for you to book for sometime in July? As I think it may be better to miss out on the end of the school year than the very beginning. How would you feel about taking a week early/mid July? I have a feeling that school before age 5 isn’t compulsory, so no fines for your daughter, although that may have changed as I’m out of education loop now.

What’s the budget OP? And do you prefer AI or SC etc?

I mean realistically it won’t make any difference missing the first couple of days, they will already know who their teacher is and which friends are in their class etc.
this year lots of kids in DDs class (year 1) missed first couple of days for holidays, they’ve been fine!
