Switzerland tips? Mainly for the eastern side

Does anyone know Switzerland? DD and I are going in a few weeks. We have most places sorted but one night left to book. We'll be in Konstanz the night before and then going to St Gallen. I was going to head for Appenzell, but hotels are mega pricey, so perhaps we'll just do a day trip there from St Gallen.

So, we have a night. Does anyone have anywhere to suggest? Would need to be reachable by train (or bus) and have enough to do for 24 hours or so. Thank you!

Chur is a really lovely city, very small and walkable, complete contrast from St Gallen. Quite accessible by train and the station is in the centre.

Thanks. Um, is St Gallen not great?

We have 2 nights between Zurich and St Gallen, so was going to do one night in Konstanz and one night tbc. Chur is south - would we be better binning of Konstanz and going south for those two nights?

DH and DD had a night in Chur on a road trip through Europe and weren‘t impressed by the place - maybe it was just the part of town where their hotel was, but it seemed overrun by drunk Swiss squaddies who were very open for red-light activities. Probably an unfortunate coincidence but I‘ve been pretty uninterested in going there since then. So yes, even the Swiss can do sketchy if they really try.
