Norwegian Fjords Cruise - 2026 for 6 adults

Have just started to research this and I thought I would reach out here for any advice and/or recommendations.

We are a group of 6 adults; 3 couples with us three “girls” turning 50 next year. We’ve been saving for a holiday to celebrate. After much debate at the weekend, re who, where and when, we’ve settled on taking our husbands on a Norwegian Fjords Cruise.

  • Ideally October/November so that it doesn’t clash with A-Levels, school holidays and start of Uni.
  • Ideally adults only, but at least not aimed at children
  • A little bit “lively”. We enjoy a drink in the evening; we’re not obnoxious (honestly), but probably a bit of giggling which we wouldn’t want to feel like we were spoiling anyone else’s holiday!
  • Above probably rules out “Saga” even though we would just about qualify!
  • Balcony cabin
  • Between 5 to 8 nights
  • Budget? Up to £7K per couple. The Fred Olsen one I’ve priced up seems great value at just over £5K for 8 nights including drinks package and excursions. Are we too young for Fred Olsen? This holiday is a couple of weeks too early as sails on 13th September - one of the group will have a child settling in at Uni, for which they will want to be “on hand” for.
  • Can sail from anywhere in England.

Thank you for any tips or insight. This will be the first cruise for us all.

Oh, and you absolutely must have a cabin!!!

Do you mean balcony cabin! 🙂

Its not a ferry with reclining chairs.

15/9/2026. Wonders of the Fjords on the Spirit of Adventure with Saga. Just come back from a fjord cruise with them and it was totally brilliant. We loved it so much we’ve booked again.

Saga seem to get very good reviews. What did you find so special? It’s a shame they go from Dover .

Why would you worry about it going from Dover? They pick you up from wherever you live and drive you there with your cases. It’s all included in the price.

Only up to 75 miles away.

Only up to 75 miles away.

Or shared taxi if you live further away. Lot of people we met in our cruise came from Yorkshire and further afield.

We did Norway in search of the Northern Lights with Cunard Last October, 15-27th. It was awesome, as the NL did in fact show up. From Southampton on the Queen Anne, which was new last year. Cunard is my benchmark now. Going with Princess Cruises around Western Med this October.

Cunard is not stuffy at all, the food was ace, the excursions were great and I loved the sea days just as much as the excursions. All in all, a superb holiday. And get the drinks package.

Thank you so much everyone. Wasn’t expecting so much help on this. 😍

P and o might still go but it’s about the time they switch to Caribbean

minnienono · 12/06/2025 23:02

I personally like Cunard because they have good guest speakers and the house band was excellent, unfortunately I know they have changed on the qm2. My parents prefer p&o which is cheaper

Tripthelightfantastical · 12/06/2025 23:18

It does say within a 75 mile radius.

Tripthelightfantastical · 12/06/2025 23:18

I am very tempted.

Maddy70 · 12/06/2025 23:34

Fred Olsen is aimed at a much older crowd and is stuffier. I would suggest Marella, p&o or MSC

It does say within a 75 mile radius.

Read it properly, it says 75 Mile radius for a private chauffeur. If you live outside the radius you might have to share with someone else. Add that to the fact that you get free excursions in every port, WiFi, drinks, insurance, all included in the price plus the chauffeur service to and from home, what’s not to like? All the cabins have a balcony, there are no inside rooms at all. Your rooms are made up every day with a turn down service at night. You get a basket of fruit topped up with whatever you want every day. Plus the 24 hour room service menu.
We took £200 to spend on board and we didn’t spend any of it. We had such a wonderful time an Saga really know how to look after their guests. I couldn’t find one thing I didn’t like.

Only up to 75 miles away.

That’s changed now. They collect people from anywhere in mainland UK, or the pay for a flight and chauffeur you between your home and the airport, then from the airport to the ship and return.

Sounds great!

For those who have done the Fjords with FO, which trips would you book in advance please and who through? I have no idea where to start.

Definitely the Flam Railway the views are fantastic and is really close to where the ship docks.
