Taking DD’s friend on holiday to Spain - do I need any docs?

I’m taking my daughter and her best friend to Spain. My daughter doesn’t have the same surname as me, and obviously her best friend is not related!

do I need any docs??

I’ve never had issues before (travelling with her and not her father) but aware rules are different in different countries.

Also not sure if I need a (signed? Notarised?) letter from her friends parents?

They are both 16 btw sorry should have said

You need a letter from their parents, signed and ideally with the details or copy of the passport of the parents.

Her travel insurance documents as well.

Make sure she has travel insurance and that if she has any health issues however trivial you, and the insurer know about them.

We did this with a friend of DS. Unbeknown to us or the travel insurer she had a nut allergy and was careless what she ate. Anaphylactic shock, hospital and a huge bill.

You will almost certainly not be asked for it, though (and if you are asked it is more likely to be on returning to the UK, although even that's very unlikely with a 16yo using the e-gates). It doesn't have to be notarised or anything like that.
