As usual we haven't booked anything! On the South coast. Like city breaks, open to a beach holiday. 2 kids, aged 9 & 12. Not too hot. Happy to fly.

Not too hot? Northern France? Plenty of eurocamp/Yelloh etc sites still have availability of your flexible. Or get a gite? Gites de France or Air bnb. Lots of interesting places to visit. Could fly or get the ferry/tunnel

How about Gdansk in Poland? It is quite pleasant in the summer.

The “Old” Town of Gdansk is vibrant with its colourful buildings, shops (especially Amber) outdoors restaurants and Museums. You could take a “pirate” boat trip to Westerplatte (start of invasion of Poland and WW2), climb St Mary’s Church Tower (over 400 steps), see the Neptune fountain, etc. There are also two really good museums, one of the Second World War and one dedicated to the solidarity movement (although your children might be a little too young for museums).

In late July to mid-August the streets are taken over by St. Dominic's Fair. The fair features nearly 1000 stalls along with entertainment stages. It is an amazing and fun experience.

The city of Sopot (12km away) has a great beach with a range of water sports and a pier. It is very easy and cheap to get there by public transport.

If you have time you can take a day trip by train to Malbork Teutonic Castle (largest brick built castle in Europe). You could also visit the Hel Peninsula (a 35km sandy scythe) and seal sanctuary.

Gdansk has a range of accommodation (but is more expensive in the summer). Restaurants (particularly outside of the main tourist areas are very good value and great quality). Public transport is very reasonable and convenient.

The Hague in the Netherlands is a comfortable temperature in July. There’s quite a bit to do (highlights for my dc were Madurodam and a day at Duinrell), a large sandy beach at Scheveningen, plus it’s well linked by train to other places like Rotterdam, Delft and Gouda.

Galicia is beautiful, and you could do Santiago de Compostela and the coast.
