The older i get the more I like to avoid crowds.

Had successes with the Alps in May half term, Turkey at Easter, Athens at Christmas.

Any other good recommendations? I'm tied to school holidays, unfortunately.

Seville in February.

Following for ideas as I too hate the crowds and heat in peak summer months. Also tied to school hols. Particularly interested in October half term ideas! We’ve done Efteling in the Netherlands a few times in late October and been lucky with the weather, and loved it.

Venice in winter. Rome in February or March.

Kefalonia, is less crowded than many Greek island and the weather is very pleasant in May. Plenty to see and do for a week (we hired a car).

Poznan (Poland) is a lovely and affordable city with a rich history and beautiful architecture. Compact (so very walkable) and great restaurants. An ideal city break away from the crowds.

Tarragona on Spain's Costa Dorada is a great city offering a blend of Roman history, lovely beaches and a delicious food. Plus as you will probably be flying to/from Reus you can visit this city, the birth place of Antoni Gaudí which hosts a Museum dedicated to him and there are some lovely examples of modernist architecture including the Institut Pere Mata and Casa Navàs.

Florence and Rome in January. Still relatively busy but so much better than peak season. No queuing for museums.

Sorrento, Naples and the Amalfi coast. May or October half terms. Both good times to visit.

Madeira for Xmas.

Benalmadena in Feb half term. Not a beach holiday but sitting outside without a coat for lunch was lovely.

Netherlands schools go back before last week of August so can be some real bargains.

Forgottenmyphone · 07/06/2025 20:09

Rome in October is perfect temperature for a full day of sightseeing and doesn’t have the crowds of Easter

Cyprus in October is great. We are looking at late Sep/October for this year.

CharlotteCChapel · 07/06/2025 20:19

Prague is great at autumn and winter half terms.

CanOfMangoTango · 07/06/2025 22:31

Some great ideas here. Thank you!

We went to Bermuda in May half term - gorgeous white sand beaches mostly deserted. Food is pricey though.

Naxos during October half term was very quiet too.
