Do you mean your child will miss the last day of term?
As a one off - no you won't get into trouble.
Just remember that anything that's in school that would be coming home needs to be collected before his final day (PE kit, workbooks etc).

Last day exactly half day? Head teacher said that this gonna be unauthorised day, I still can take him but I might get some consequences? I beg her to authorise this day but she declined, should I call that day and just said that he is ill? Or is to late?

Too late to say he is ill because you've already said that you've booked a flight. Highly unlikely that anything will happen.

Needmorelego · 05/06/2025 16:36

It will be put in the register as unauthorised but as it's a half day you won't get into any trouble.
If he's had good attendance the rest of the year it will barely make a blip on his attendance percentage.

Hayabuza · 05/06/2025 16:36

Just don’t wanna pay any fines 😔 this is first time in my life when I take him off school like this? And he is 14 already, that’s why I’m panicking a bit 🫣🙃

You won't get fined for half a day.
Enjoy your holiday.

PopcornKitten · 05/06/2025 19:38

Just have a read of your local authorities code of conduct regarding penalty notices. There are some LAs that are zero tolerance and some that have a lower threshold. Most operate on the statutory guidance which would mean no action unless there are further unauthorised absences.

Symposium123 · 05/06/2025 19:53

Which country do you live in?

Hayabuza · 05/06/2025 20:53

United Kingdom

Nothing will happen! They won't fine you for half day or even a whole day. And if anything like my sons secondary school, they literally do not do anything on the last day - usually assembly and watching videos / going to tutor group to play games rather than lessons.

Hayabuza · 05/06/2025 21:14

Ok thank you 🙏 I feel better now 🙃😉

I dont have kids but i dont think you will be fined for half a a day.
Tbh just take the whole day the school can go piss off.

Unbeleevable · 06/06/2025 01:47

My dd primary school used to ignore anyone trimming the last few days off in summer if your dc is generally good for attendance it won’t typically cause any problem (and don’t do it every year!)

You put the school in a bit of a spot by telling them though, they have to toe the official line and tell you off. But in my experience high chance no comeback.

LoudSnoringDog · 06/06/2025 04:57

Nothing will happen

Sirzy · 06/06/2025 05:20

If it makes you feel better I work in a school and this year finish a day before DS. He will be missing the last day of year 10 so we can travel for our holiday!

it will be unauthorised but in the grand scheme of things one day unathorised means nothing. Enjoy your holiday.

ohyesherewego · 06/06/2025 05:40

You won’t get fined and they would have already calculated attendance percentage on the school report.

Hayabuza · 06/06/2025 05:51

Thanks Guys 😉

Have fun!

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 06/06/2025 18:46

It's fine to have the odd unauthorised day, they normally fine if you have a whole week/5 days over a ten week period of unauthorised absence.
Just tell them you're going, relax and enjoy! We take a couple of days off regularly as the flights work out cheaper and we've never had an issue. Worst we had was a grumpy letter but never a fine!
Have a lovely time

Hayabuza · 06/06/2025 21:56

Thank you 😉☺️
