Holiday in term time

Hi all, thanks for reading. I’m after a little bit of advice.
I’ve booked a holiday early on this week during term time.
I know I’m going to get fined, but what do I tell the school? (Never taken any time off during term time before)

thanks in advance 🙂

You fill in a holiday form. You don’t get it authorised but let them know you’re going anyway.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 01/06/2025 20:48

You tell them the truth.

Anjo2011 · 01/06/2025 20:52

We’ve just done it. Told the truth and said we were going away. One school replied and said it will go down as unauthorised and other dds school didn’t even acknowledge the email! Haven’t heard any more and we’ve been back three weeks.

What country are you in OP?

Suzy19 · 01/06/2025 20:53

How in advance did you tell them? Sorry I forgot to say UK

I think previous poster meant which bit of the UK. It’s different in England/Scotland/Wales.
At my DCs school you just ask reception for a form to fill in and then send it them back and they sign it and return it to you a couple of weeks later

I’ve took my son on holiday 5 times since the school year started last September - any of them that were in term time we were required to fill in a holiday request form. It gets put as unauthorised. Last time we were also required to show a screenshot of our flight details, not sure why though x

Anjo2011 · 01/06/2025 23:04

We flew on a Sunday evening and messaged them that morning. By the time one of them replied we were already there! Just to add we’ve never done it before and they are both in secondary schools . I wouldn’t make a habit of it but on this occasion it worked for our family.

I’d just email now and say, X won’t be in school these dates as we’re going away.
