We’re going on holiday in France for the first time this year and I’d like to get the kids excited. Any tips!

Also would love tips for when we’re there. Thank you!!

Have a look at the Horrible Histories to see if any might be suitable (videos, games, books).

I also love the Asterix books but your DC are a bit young, but perhaps you could read them together?

I live not far from Nimes and been there a few times. What are you looking for specifically? The Musée de la Romanite is brilliant but be warned is quite big - so bear that in mind as my 4 yr old would have got bored about half way through. But still worth it in my opinion.

Nimes is very walkable but gets very hot in the summer so be aware of that especially with small children.

The Pont du Gard is amazing if you can get out there and you can swim/paddle in the river too which is lovely when it’s hot ( just be aware that there is a current so children need to be closely supervised).

For the Romans maybe some stories about Roman myths or legends? An understanding of the key deities for the 6 yr old will make things more interesting.

You can catch a train to Le Grau du Roi, where there’s a good aquarium and some nice sandy beaches. The journey is quite scenic and only takes 45 mins.
Les Halles de Nimes is an amazing food market. It’s only open up until lunchtime and is really busy on Saturdays.

These are great suggestions - thank you so much!

You could try the Roman mysteries series by Caroline Lawrence as a bedtime story for your 6yo. My DD loved them.
