Holidays to Turkey

I have never been to Turkey and to be honest I have been a bit put off by stories I’ve heard.

However so many people have been and have said how amazing it is. Luxury on a budget, excellent food, wonderful people. Most of the hotels do seem to have water parks and look huge with loads to do.

Anyone who has been, how was it? Is it really true that you get a better holiday for your money?

What part is best for families? Did you feel safe etc?

We've been twice. Loved it. We went all inclusive to a fab hotel in Belek, Anatalya the first time as a family of 4. Beautiful hotel, fantastic food, perfect. The second time it was just me DH and Dd. Anatalya again, but I different hotel. Another fantastic stay.

Dalaman area for me every time. The scenery is just breathtaking. I have never felt unsafe in Turkey. Not once. Even when I have spent a couple of days alone before friends flew out to join me I still felt safe

I have a friend who is a right snob but regularly goes to either Kas, fethiye or oluz deniz every year - I’ve only ever been to Istanbul ( which was great) to be honest as my H refuses to give money to Erdogan - same with Budapest and at the moment USA too , it’s getting a bit restrictive where he will go-lol - hence a lot of Spain and Greece in our house .

I went to Turkey for the first time a couple of years ago (Istanbul and Kusadasi to see Ephesus and chill time after inter-railing through Europe). I was pretty underwhelmed, TBH. I’ve not been to the Dalaman coast, maybe that would have been better, but I’m also not an AI/big hotel type of holiday-er, so it may be that it’s just not for me. Friends and family absolutely rave about Turkey, so I wonder if I just did it ‘wrong’.

We went for the first time last year to Izmir and it was amazing. Lovely hotel, great weather and amazing places to visit. We walked around Kusadasi and didn't get harassed or feel unsafe at any point. We loved it so much we are going back next year but to a different part of Turkey

Dalaman isn't an all inclusive area. Don't get me wrong, if that's you bag then there are plenty to choose from but there are also lots of small hotels to choose from too where you eat and drink where you like.

We're just back from Dalyan (Dalaman area). It's definitely not as cheap as it was a few years ago, but still good value and a beautiful area to visit. Dalaman is all small hotels and loads of great places to eat.

We are recent converts to Turkey having been camping in wales mostly prior. Kids got to an age where water slides and ice cream became very important so we looked at all inclusive but couldn’t afford Greece and Spain. Ended up in Turkey. Been 3 times in a row now.
first Belek, loved the resort but didn’t like Antalya airport. Then Bodrum, amazing and beautiful, with such lovely beaches, scenery and easy transfer. Last visit was marmaris, while it ticked the water slide and ice cream boxes for the kids it wasn’t the best, hotel and beach amazing but I like to walk around the resort and try cafes and bars. I would go to marmaris again purely for the beach but Bodrum would be my first choice
have an amazing time where ever you go

We've been to the Turquiose Coast side - Kalkan / Kas, couple of hours south of Dalaman. Very beautiful and not your all inclusive type areas.

We've usually done Greece / Italy and Turkey was more expensive last summer - everyone said there had been a hike in prices. Not quite UK prices but not far off. Definitely not "budget" to eat out / drink.

I’ve been 13 times. I absolutely love Turkey. The people are lovely the coast is spectacular and I adore Turkish food. I’ve been by myself and never felt unsafe.

i’ve always been to Marmaris, Fethiye, Gocek or Selimiye. I still have stuff I bought in the Turkish bazaar in Marmaris. You can get excellent quality leather goods and there are plenty of genuine fakes.

I’ve done the gulet cruises, which were amazing holidays.
