Hand luggage

Has anyone flown with Ryanair lately? I'm a bit confused about the hand luggage situation. We have the standard, free hand luggage but we are travelling with a baby. Has anyone recently had their bag size checked? I think we will be OK with what we have but it may be a bit bulkier on the day with milk bottles etc.
Also, where do they check the size etc?

If you buy duty free, does that have to fit in your bag or can you take that on as additional bags??

TIA

Ryanair are dicks about bag size. They'll check just before you board. If you buy stuff in duty free and get a bag you can usually chuck an extra bottle in that bag, but they won't let you just unload you're suitcase stuff into it for instance.

They check the size alright! Big time!

OK ta. What about baby stuff? The website says that doesn't count but I'm not sure I trust it!

@AnxiousD says right on their website. A lap infant is also entitled to a bag no more than 5kg and 45x35x20cm in size. That should be plenty big enough for a few bottles and nappies, wipes, change of clothes.

If it says it on their own website then it's fine, surely, nothing to worry about.

@AnxiousD don't forget you can check in 2 baby items for free, either at the bag drop or at the gate (be sure to get tags). So a stroller, car seat, cot, etc. you don't really need a great deal on the plane, and with a baby on your lap you won't want a ton of extra crap to cram under the seat in front.

(I don't know what you mean by "baby stuff doesn't count" but you can't just take unlimited bags on board)

From Ryanair website

‘However, we allow a baby bag up to 5kg (dimensions: 45x35x20cms) for babies travelling on an adult's lap.‘

So you can take an additional bag for baby essentials
