WARNING: Abusive and illegal transfer practices at Mallorca Airport

Joshmae · 29/05/2025 21:23

Travelers should be aware that certain individuals at the airport illegally offer overpriced transfers to destinations like Alcúdia, Muro, Pollença, Magaluf, and others, without any prior booking.

These individuals often give false information about the actual price of official taxis, misleading tourists into thinking public taxis are much more expensive than they really are.

In reality, official taxis in Mallorca are regulated, safe, and often cheaper than Uber. You should avoid any service that lacks proper licensing and transparent pricing.

What to do:

Compare prices before booking a transfer.

Use official taxi services with regulated and clearly displayed fares.

Be aware that Uber is often more expensive than local taxis.

Don’t accept rides from people approaching you without prior arrangement.

That’s just basic common sense not to use these guys.

digiwidgy · 30/05/2025 08:16

This is everywhere. It's not just Mallorca.

FanofLeaves · 30/05/2025 08:17

you need to be mindful of this in every tourist destination airport the world over.

what about this in particular is abusive?

Nicole621 · 30/05/2025 08:26

We always get the bus in Mallorca, much cheaper and no scams.

Sirzy · 30/05/2025 08:29

So basically when travelling people should use common sense and plan ahead where possible.

not sure in what way Mallorca is different there.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 30/05/2025 08:31

Are you an official taxi driver at Palma airport by any chance?

yeesh · 30/05/2025 08:36

Lol

BitOutOfPractice · 30/05/2025 08:39

Sorry you got ripped off but surely everyone who has ever travelled anywhere knows this. It’s certainly not unique to Mallorca.

What’s “abusive” about it.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 30/05/2025 08:44

Not everyone on Mumsnet travels all the time or is aware that non-licensed taxi drivers are able to operate inside airports. Ignore the snarkers, OP, thanks for posting this.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/05/2025 08:46

You don’t have to travel to know this. The same is true in the uk. Don’t get into an unlicensed cab in the uk or anywhere.

Riaanna · 30/05/2025 09:18

Literally the same applies in every country on the planet.

Quitelikeit · 30/05/2025 09:21

Yes but at Mallorca airport taxis do not accommodate more than four passengers - not nice and expensive when you are a family of five and want to travel together

EmpressaurusKitty · 30/05/2025 09:24

This looks like AI spam to me. Reported.

User989674 · 30/05/2025 09:28

If they didn't beat you up or traffick you someplace to work without pay then it's clearly not abusive.

MaiAamWaliHun · 30/05/2025 09:47

This happens everywhere I think. I got quoted 2000 ruppees at Lucknow airport for a journey I knew cost 350 rupees with Uber. They still persisted after I told them I knew the Uber cost hahaha.

Joshmae · 30/05/2025 10:59

Sometimes it's cheaper to take two taxis than a minibus — just ask for prices and compare. Don’t rely solely on what these people tell you. For example, if there are six of you traveling to Alcudia, the minibus might charge you up to €50 per person — that’s €300 total. Two taxis would cost you around €180.
