I’m flying at 6:05 and wondering the same. But I’m feeling tired. However we need to leave at 2am as further away from airport x

is it a long flight? Can you sleep on plane,

Chumpfriend · 28/05/2025 23:56

It’s only 2hrs so no that deep but I’m a massive stress head. And just lying here thinking - it’s not worth sleeping? 🤷‍♀️

How far. No issue if Europe. Just go to bed early.

Go to sleep. Even a 20 min nap will help you be in a better mental state. Sleep is my specialist subject. Sleep now and you can still get 3hrs in.

We have a flight at 620 in a couple of weeks will heed to leave house about 330. I was having this very conversation earlier about do we go to bed at 9 or just stay up. I think trying to sleep is the best option but already worrying about the fact that I won't be able to sleep!

DH and I got up super early this morning so we could try and go to sleep around 8/9pm. Think we both got about an hour. I ended up getting up and finishing the packing and tidying the house Grin

I’ve been on the sofa since about 10pm trying to doze but failing. Four hour flight though so I’ll sleep on the journey to airport and the plane hopefully!

I don’t bother going to bed if I have to leave at 3 or 4 in the morning for a flight. I know I wouldn’t sleep anyway. I get my myself showered and ready around 9pm, and then read/watchTV until it’s time to go.

For early flights, doesn't anyone ever stay in an airport hotel? We do. We go late afternoon and have dinner and then lounge about in the room. We have a few hour's sleep and then get up and go!

have a lovely holiday

No.

Always fly at 6.40. Nothing worse than powering through and arriving dead on your feet.

Any sleep is better than none. You'll soon start flagging after midnight. We'll I did!

reluctantbrit · 29/05/2025 20:18

I try to nap on the plane/get some rest and then it depends what we do.

AI resort - I get a sun lounger and relax - maybe nap for one hour if we can get into the room.

S/C or sightseeing - I power through and have a break in a park/beach for 1-2 hours

We always do this for an early flight. Anything else feels like too much stress. I love being at the airport so it feels like an extension of the holiday.

asrl78 · 29/05/2025 22:27

I've only done this in childhood but at the time I just went to bed as normal, gotr what sleep I could, up at 4am, I was groggy but it wasn't awful. Carry on regardless, catch up on sleep the first night at our destination, will be back to normal then. You can normally get though one day after a lack of sleep. When I was at uni I once flew back from the U.S. and because of the flight timing, got home earlyish morning and went straight to uni for a days work, on the basis that forcing my body back into a normal routine was the best thing to do and I will only be groggy for that one day.

ThePoshUns · 29/05/2025 22:29

I regularly fly at 6am. Get up at 2.45am.
i go to bed about 9 to get a good few hours and snooze on the plane.

It definitely seems like an extension of the holiday. Also, there's non of the stress of worrying about travelling to the airport because you are already there!

It's so relaxing to be there at the airport ready for the flight.
