Chilled resort near Chania for a solo traveller in September?

I stayed in Rethymon three years ago and whilst it was nice, I'm looking for a smaller resort this time. Somewhere an hour maximum on the bus from Chania airport, doesn't have to be anywhere fancy 😁 It'll be for five or six days, will just need somewhere pretty to relax with my book 🇬🇷

Sorry without the extra ‘s’!

Thanks I'll look it up! Have you stayed there?

We stayed in Loutro although a long time ago. I think it might have been a couple of hours bus and then a ferry, but it was very lovely.

That looks quite a distance from Chania airport 😐

Georgiopolis is nice. Channia is brilliant too!

Look near Marathi beach - 45 min drive to chania. Our favourite place in Crete - it’s a hidden gem.

I second Georgoupolis. We loved it there

Almyrida or Kalyves are lovely seaside towns if you want more independence.

That’s interesting - I’ve visited Georgiopolos a few times when staying nearby and found it really down-at-heel and grubby. Perhaps I was in the wrong parts. Where do you recommend?

Panormos is about 1.5 hours from Chania. Pretty little seaside town, nice restaurants, sandy beach, sheltered bay for swimming. No sunloungers on the beach though if that is a consideration for you. There is a second beach in walking distance but I've not been to that one.

Thanks for all the tips, I'm more confused than ever now! 😂

I would like to do one or two excursions; I did the Spinalonga trip in 2022 which was amazing but a long bus journey from Rethymnon and don't want to repeat so soon. The Samaria Gorge walk I did in 1998 (!) - loved it but too scared to do it on my own now in case I get injured, I am fit but vividly remember a poor woman with a sprained ankle being hoisted onto a rescue donkey 😳

The other recommendations, I will check out 💞

I stayed in Spilia Village just up from Kolymbari. Although I was on a walking holiday it would have been perfect for chilling by the pool with a book. It was easy to get taxis places and there was a road train doing various trips to local places.
