Hotel for a 1 night special stay

It is our 20th wedding anniversary in September and we are going away for 1 night, it will be the first time in 10 years going somewhere without our children. Any suggestions? Looking for comfort, luxury, possibly an outdoor pool and fine dining? Hoping to stick to 1-2 hours from London.

I can help if you want to head south, my suggestions are: Gravetye Manor, South Lodge or any of the HSH Hotels.
Congratulations and have a lovely time whatever you decide.

Any scope to stretch to 2 nights? Only most hotels check in isn’t till 2/3 and then they want you out of the room by 10/11 so wouldn’t leave you much time.

glass house retreat is great

The Brudenell in Aldeburgh is our escape.
The Lifehouse near Clacton is a spa with a good restaurant and nice grounds. They let you check in at 11.00am and although you have to check out at 10.00 the next day, you are allowed to use the facilities for all of that day as well. They give you a locker to use in the changing rooms once you have checked out.

One night I'd never enough to really chill. You are either checking in or out and it becomes just a bed for the night. 2 nights is more relaxing

Penny hill Park in Berkshire or Royal Crescent, Bath are both very special
