France - Sanef tolls with no toll booths

Does anyone know how these function when you don't know they exist and you don't pre-register or have a tag? (We drive in mainland Europe fairly often, so no issue with the usual tolls with tickets and payment booths, well used to those.)

This trip hit a bit of the Sanef toll roads that don't have tickets or payment machines, though. I hadn't pre-registered my car (given that I didn't know they exist!), but I went online and did it as soon as we reached our destination. No fees have landed retrospectively, though.

We came a different route back - presumably this would have registered, but didn't meet any of the 'flux libre' on the route home.

I suppose at least I can demonstrate that I registered on the same day, but not sure what else I can do with it, really?

You can pay for a single trip without registering here: https://www.sanef.com/client/index.html#basket

I assume that you can enter your registration number there and it will tell you what trips it recorded for you.

You star, @samarrange - I obviously over-complicated things by creating the account, that worked perfectly. Thank you.

We did these last week on a trip to Normandie; a bit like the Dartford tunnel in that you have a certain amount of time in which to pay up. I love these new tolls, such a huge difference not having to slow down to physically stop/pay etc.

I suppose they have decided that the convenience of being able to pay without logging in outweighs any stalking possibilities. For example, someone really nosey who knew you were in France yesterday might type in your number plate and learn that you travelled on XYZ section of the A13 between 2 and 4pm, when you told them you were somewhere else. But the overhead in proving that you are indeed the owner of the car, across 50 or more countries, would be a nightmare. And presumably neither you nor SANEF are too worried about the possibility that someone else might just rock up and pay your toll for you!

I love them too, now I know how to work them ... 😆

I completely forgot to do mine, and then panicking about being pulled over next time I went, I logged onto the website and it just let me pay the normal toll amount - even weeks late.

Perhaps there's a bit larger grace period at the moment!
