Who to book a solo "fly& flop" holiday through that doesn't cost as much as 2 people?

For years I've wanted to do a solo holiday - to push me out of my comfort zone a bit, maybe give me some confidence that I've lost over the years. I just want to do before I'm too old as well!

I just fancy 5 days somewhere sunny near a beach - Spain, Portugal, Greece maybe - I've been to them all and think would feel safe enough there. We usually go self-catering and book our flights and accommodation independently but I'm erring more towards a package deal, possibly half-board, for a solo trip. I'm not discounting self-catering, it's just AirBnB accommodation for example would be priced for 2 people staying so quite pricey for one.

Trouble is, finding something that doesn't cost the same as 2 people going!
Where should I look? Someone mentioned Jet2 but their solo holidays are so pricey!

It seems crazy to see deals that cost the same for 2 people as it does for one. Is there something I'm missing?

Yes, of all the shocks to come from widowhood, the cost of travelling (or doing anything) solo was one of the bigger ones.

Aye. You're hit everywhere.

It's now much more expensive to have a short break in the UK.

There are - for example - some coach tours that advertise single rooms, but I'm not sure that they work out cheaper.

I did take my first proper holiday abroad on my own last year - Montenegro with Saga. It wasn't cheap, but the food was good and the room was much better than expected. Was supposed to be a side sea view, but I was lucky and got a full sea view.

I could have tried to book the components separately, but I just needed that bit of security that you get with an organised holiday.

I previously took a trip to Ireland for a wedding and the accommodation for one person was exorbitant - no single rooms available at all.

I did a solo trip a few years back with jet2. They do usually have solo discounts to use.
I highly recommend menorca as a solo destination. Felt so safe. Cultural things to do and tasty food.

Some airbnb's are cheaper for one than 2. Our last place was £25 cheaper per night for a solo over a couple.

I buy flights separately in a sale and work out accommodation later.
Onthebeach.co.uk allow you to search for hotels only and some hotels will have single rooms.
I usually book a basic room in a bnb hotel in a convenient location and spend the day doing what I want. 10/10 would recommend.
Sanctuari De Lluc in Mallorca is a good option for you. I picked up cheap BA flights for £100, a room there for a week was just under £300. Bargain.

Thank you for ideas.

A bar or entertainment is not something I'd be looking for . I'd prefer a glass of something on my balcony whilst reading a book or scrolling mumsnet 😊

Maybe I should look for a studio apartment with basic kitchen instead and eat out once a day. I don't think eating out alone would bother me.

Vila Petra in Albufeira fits that description.

I went to Rhodes by myself last year. I used last minute dot com there was no single supplement. Flights with BA transfers luggage and apartment on the beach for under £500 in June. I used to be a travel agent and all the major tour ops will charge single supplement. Better to dynamic package with someone like lm.com or Expedia. Trailfinders etc for farther afield

I’d a solo holiday a couple of years at the Duva Apartments in Puerto Pollensa. Booked through Jet2 I think. There was a restaurant over the road and a supermarket nearby so I didn’t feel like I had to venture far, and the resort was lovely too. Didn’t feel weird being on my own, felt very safe. The public transport is easy and cheap to use there too (tap on/off on the buses) so venturing to other towns was easy.

Wow, lots of ideas and places/websites to look at. Thank you.

I think I was looking at packages just for that extra bit of security like you did @WearyAuldWumman . A hotel would offer opportunities to ask for help and advice if needed, book you a taxi to the airport etc. However looking at some of the photos of single rooms at some hotels they're little more than cupboards with a window. I think I've been spoiled as we usually go self-catering so have more space and a balcony or roof terrace.

Flights-wise Skyscanner is showing some great prices for Mallorca, Ibiza (although would be my worst nightmare to end up somewhere surrounded by party-goers!) and mainland Spain generally although some of the flight times are a bit inconvenient, landing outbound around midnight for example so I'd have to watch that.
