We are looking at going somewhere october half term for a short break - currently under “house arrest” for GCSEs - we have looked at Malta and Morocco potentially as we would like somewhere warm and ideally with a mix of city and beach - any top tips? Family of four with two teens one of whom is veggie so food can be an issue!

We have had lovely October holidays in Rhodes and Puglia (awesome food).

Canary islands and Cyprus also good weather at that time of year. I found Malta a bit dull compared to Morocco, although it could be a bit of a culture shock if you're used to Europe. Marrakech with Essaouira perhaps if you do decide to go there? We went to the desert rather than the beach so haven't been to Essaouira but it seems to be a popular choice.

We loved Marrakesh and so did our kids. Lots to see and do. We did a food tour with a guide around the market and souk, we went to a women's outreach project and learned to cook a tagine, did a history tour, took ourselves out around the medina and also found lovely cheap local food. Also had plenty of time for RnR and stayed in a great place with a pool. Les Jardins De La Médina

A friend went with her kids and they found it a bit overwhelming though. It is quite full on and in your face, but we loved it. Food wouldn't be an issue.

Jordan was also great for history and trips at that time of year. This year we are off to Oman.

Sicily is very easy for a vegetarian. Loads of pasta, pizza and arancini options, plus a lot of their traditional dishes are meat-free. My teens fell in love with cannoli on a street food walking tour! Catania would be a good base for a mixture of beach and city and it’s not too far from Etnaland theme park, which was a highlight for my dc. Another highlight was the mount Etna cable car.
