Luxury hotel in Malta? / Christmas in Malta?

Has anyone stayed here recently? It's the one in Attard, in the centre of the island. I stayed once, 24 years ago on my honeymoon and it was amazing. The breakfasts, at that time, had a special dedicated omelette chef (& bottomless champagne, though I don't think I'd indulge much these days!)
We need to stay in Malta in particular and I'd like a wow factor and wondered if the CP in Attard still 'had it'. Thank you.

Part 2 Qu (thinking this through) ...
I might prefer to travel at Christmas.
Is most of Malta shut then (not 25/6th) or would historical attractions still be open?

Sorry, the 'here' referred to was: Corinthia Palace, Attard.

Boyfriend lived in Malta for 10 years, he says corinthians, attard or phoenician in Valletta which is very grand and opposite the priministers office.

He says most things will be open over Christmas, they have plenty of tourists at that time of year.

Also have a look at xara palace in medina which is the original capital of malta, very old and very beautiful area.

He was working at the corinthia when you were there on your honeymoon. It was owned by gaddafi, he had his own suite there.

I’m just back from Malta. Very very underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong there were some lovely spots but the island is just one big building site

Goodness, I didn't know that - how interesting thank you x

@Katieweasel Yes I've heard that and I am sure it will be different from when I last went ((1997 and 2001) but I need to go there for a family connection.
