GPS watch for on holidays

Hi there!

We are taking the kids out of the UK for the first time ever in a few weeks. They live on a small island, have never been to a city and are real hillbillies!
My youngest is very busy and excitable and isn’t reliable for coming when called (he’s 6). We and the school are working on it ALL the time with him, but I think want to have some things in place to keep him safe.
we have bought a wrist strap which we have told him
he’ll have to wear if he runs away and through the airport. We’re going to be in a very busy and exciting place nothing like he’s been or seen before and it’s going to be total sensory overload, so I really want to have some way of reassuring myself that if he did get lost we’d have some support. We will
obviously take every procaution and talk to
him firmly about staying with us. I use a stick and possibly a wheel chair but my husband is able bodied and my 11 year old is very sensible. He also has life threatening food allergies but he can advocate for himself well if he were to be found and taken care of by staff etc.
has anyone used a GPS watch for kids? I’ve looked at air tags but they don’t seem to be a good idea?

thanks so much

We use the Life360 tiles (like airtags, but they don't ping off of other iphones so don't have that security concern) with a silicone wristband. They aren't interesting like a watch so there's less temptation to take it off and play with it, and they work well.

My 7 year old has the Xplora GPS watch but I don't know if I just have shit GPS signal in my area or its an issue with the watch itself but it is not great. It once showed him leaving school, going all the way home and back again, but he was at school the whole time.

So I don't recommend that watch. But it is very useful for calling him on, and once when OH overslept DS called me from his watch to ask if he was supposed to be in school yet and I told him to go wake his dad up right away!
