Resorts with activities near Alhambra/Cordoba

Hi I’m looking to visit both of the above (lifelong wish) but my teen boys would probably also want to be near a beach and some activities such as swimming and tennis. We have driven in Spain and would have a hire car. Happy to drive up to a couple of hours.
Travel agent has suggested Costa del Sol as a base but just worried about it being heaving. We tend to go to slightly quieter resorts. Would love access to a nice sandy beach.
Travelling in July.

El Puerto de Santa Maria (near Cadiz and Seville) is quite nice and will have more teen-like activities. Or somewhere like Chiclana?

Western end of Cala Mijas

Mumofboys2006 · 16/05/2025 09:20

Thanks both. Can you suggest any resorts in both places?

We visited Granada from Nerja. Really nice and easy drive. Nerja seemed to be more self catering apartments with pools which suited us. Nice beaches but not sure what activities there are as we went October half term so much quieter.

Thanks @MissAmbrosia- isn’t Costa de la Luz a bit far though? How easy is to reach places like Cadiz?

If anyone could recommend any good places with a nice pool in Malaga that would be fab.

Can’t recommend a hotel for you but if you are planning to stay in Malaga, you can easily get to Granada and Cordoba on the train, plus the resorts further down the coast and the bus to Mijas.

Thanks all - we’ve booked a villa in Frigiliana with a pool 😊

You will need to book the Alhambra in advance.

Mumofboys2006 · 19/05/2025 11:59

Thanks - yes - planning on doing that asap!😅

Oh Frigiliana is lovely and it’s an easy drive from there to Granada. Competer is another white village you could visit not too far from there. Nerja has a few beaches but for beach games and swimming Buriana is probably the best. Parking around there is likely to be difficult in the summer though. If you don’t mind a walk back up a steep hill I would suggest trying to park a bit further back . Nerja town centre has a big choice of restaurants.

I think there is a water park somewhere near to Torrox.
