Looking at Bulgaria or Croatia for June, can anyone recommend a fairly peaceful area, we like sea swimming and sightseeing, plus a variety of restaurants.
Thanks!

From Makarska or Brela you could do day trips to Split, Omis, Mostar and Kravica waterfall.

Bulgaria is a more affordable destination than Croatia with a range of attractions, from golden beaches, breathtaking mountains and historical sites. We stayed near Nessbar (a lovely UNESCO protected town) the only downside is that it is close to Sunny Beach (which is an amazing beach but is crowded with numerous bars/night clubs and strip clubs). We hired a car (which was very reasonable) and visited a number of cultural sites, different beaches, etc. we also went on a boat ride which was lovely.

Croatia is more picturesque and the Adriatic coastline is stunning and fantastic for swimming. It is perhaps more touristy and crowded than Bulgaria, particularly in the summer. It has some amazing historical sites, including Roman ruins and medieval architecture. We stayed on an island just off Dubrovnik, which while lovely meant that any sightseeing trip started early (6am) with a 1-2 hour boat trip. I would love to go back but would stay on the mainland and travel in May or late September, when it was a little less busy.
